Snowmobiling in Lake City, Colorado

Coming home after a long days ride
Coming home after a long days ride

2006

I flew out to Colorado after Christmas to do a couple days of guided snowmobile tours in Lake City. The tours were through Lake City Auto. The groups consisted of 10 to 15 people and two EMT trained guides. I had never been on a snowmobile before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Here's what I discovered:

1. Snowmobiles are really fun!
2. Snowmobiles are really easy to learn! Anyone can do it.
3. Snowmobiles can't go anywhere and do anything where there is snow.

They get stuck pretty easy in the hands of a beginner. Paying attention to the guides instructions and staying on the trail will avoid any newbie problems one might have.

We rode approximately 50 miles with a stop for lunch at the Inn at Arrowhead. The Inn had great food, was clean and comfortable, and made for a great midday stop. The guides were patient and professional and the staff at Lake City Auto were very helpful. No snow gear? Lake City Auto can loan you anything you need from a helmet to a full snow suit. The tour was $130 a day for your own snowmobile (lunch is extra).
