I recently spent a long weekend at the Orville Chandler Ranch in Northeast Oregon. The ranch is 20 miles from Baker City and sits on the edge of the Elkhorn Range which is in the Blue Mountains. The Blues are little known to outsiders and are fantastic in the fall. Tamaracks, coniferous trees that turn yellow in the Fall, grow here in abundance and produce vibrant bands of color. The ranch is nestled right on the edge of the mountains and sits on 320 acres of open land. The house has four bedrooms, sleeps up to eight, and pets are allowed.
This is our second Fall trip to the ranch. We packed the place full with 8 people and 6 dogs. The people all participated in various recreation activities from road and moutnain biking to hiking and rock climbing. Anthony Lakes Ski Resort is just 20 miles away and the resort borders wilderness that has many great trails and lakes. The dogs spend their days hiking with us or chasing each other around the spacious ranch property. Nearby Baker City has an interesting history and it's worth a trip into town.
We had a great time and between eight of us we ended up spending just 80 dollars per person for the entire 4 day and 3 night stay. I would highly recommend the ranch to anyone wanting to have a great getaway with friends and dogs.
