Lake City Colorado is the hidden gem of the Rocky Mountains and is my favorite destination town. This town of 400 is approximately 55 miles south of Gunnison in the least populated part of Colorado. With it's mining heritage, Lake City is an interesting mix of old frontier town, victorian homes, and mountain cabins. Just 2 miles from town is Lake San Cristobal, Colorados second largest natural lake.
Recreation opportunities abound in Lake City. Camping on the lake, alpine jeep adventures, fly fishing on the Lake Fork of the Gunnison, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing are just some of the things to do in the area.
