Americas last frontier
2006
I've always thought it was ironic that the most inaccessible, least explored group of mountains in the United States are in California. That's right, California. These mountains are in the Northern most part of the state and include the Trinity Alps and the Siskiyous which spill over the border with Oregon. They are bordered by Ashland, Oregon on the North end and Weaverville, California on the South end. In between there is literally nothing. No highways. A few dirt roads. No towns. This is a big stretch of wild land.
I thought of this today when I read this article on CNN.com:
Giant waterfall discovered in California national park
This is amazing to me. Right in the nations most populous state, a major geographic landmark was just discovered - in 2005.
