The Broadway Hotel - Philipsburg, Montana

The Broadway Hotel
The Broadway Hotel

2006

The Broadway Hotel, in Philipsburg Montana, is a newly renovated, historic hotel on the second floor of a 19th century building. Each room of the Hotel has a different theme and the rooms range from basic with a double bed and small bathroom, to deluxe with two beds, large bathrooms and whirlpool tubs. The rooms are arranged around the perimeter of the building with a large library and meeting room in the center. All of the walls of the inn are covered with old maps and historical documents from the local area, prompting one older guest to comment "this is the first hotel I've stayed at where I didn't switch on the TV to watch the evening news!". The layout of the Hotel encourages meeting and talking with fellow guests. The hosts are friendly and interesting people as well and I look forward to having more time to talk to them in the future. The hotel has also opened a couple of pet friendly cottages in town.

I first stayed at The Broadway during the Fall of 2004. The Hotel had just been reopened in 2003 and was an important catalyst in the economic redevelopment of Philipsburg, and old mining town. In 2004, we had trouble even getting a meal in town. The only restaurant open for dinner was a local bar. We prefer not to eat in a bar so we were out of luck. 2006 brings some striking changes to Philipsburg. There are several new restaurants and cafes. There are a couple of new real estate offices in town, signaling a strengthening real estate market. The streets were busy with tourists and the town seemed to be well on it's way to being reborn as a vacation destination.
