West Yellowstone is literally situated several hundred yards from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. As a result it is perfectly situated for travelers and tourists visiting the park to take advantage of the lodging and restaurants offered there. There are numerous places to stay inside the park such as the Old Faithful Inn and the Mammoth Springs Resort. Unfortunately, these places tend to fill up and folks are forced out of the park for lodging. My wife and I found ourselves in this very situation in late September and began researching places to stay.
West Yellowstone is full of lodging opportunities ranging from inexpensive motels to cozy B&B’s. We ultimately settled on a cabin style place called The Hibernation Station. It is located about two blocks from the downtown area and only about 1 mile from the Yellowstone west entrance. They offer a variety of size cabins from one-room studios to two story homes. They are log designs and have been furnished with remarkable log and bentwood furniture. Many of the rooms have gas fireplaces and jetted tubs as well. We found them to be very clean and comfortable to lounge around in. They are all non-smoking rooms.
The Hibernation Station is walking distance to the IMAX Theater and downtown dining. The overall ambiance really fit well with a day spent in the park exploring the geology and wildlife. I highly recommend it.
