Magellan's custom AT can holder brackets

Ted came up with a pretty clever can mounting system - the holder is bolted to both the jack mount and to a custom bracket that bolts into the overhanging part of the side of the camper:

Wow, that's great -- and clever. I like that you don't have to pierce the back-wall skin to mount the holder.

In my pre-camper days I always carried extra truck-fuel, but haven't since I got the camper...but I'd still like to avoid running out of gas.

That's great! I want to copy this. But first, obligatory questions:

Is the under the side bracket bolted through into the propane compartment?
Any reason this would put undue stress on the camper frame?
And no concerns about it being too close to the furnace heat?

That was of key importance to us also.

Simple rectangular frame is made from square steel stock at Home Depot. I think it cost about $6. I cut it and had a coworker weld it up for me. It could easily be done with aluminum as well. The angle pieces I made out of some aluminum stock I had lying around. They keep the holder from rocking or vibrating.

The bolts are cairrage head bolts installed in the section of cabinet the refrigerator is mounted in. Yes, I had to remove the fridge to do that. I had to use cairrage heads to keep a low profile because the fridge sits flush on the cabinet base.

I don't think so. It seems the bolts would pull through the plywood before the frame would be damaged.

No, it sits quite a ways above the vent. Here is a picture from our Warner Mountains trip where you can see that.



We chose not to put it on the passenger side because it would block the door from opening all the way and it would partially block the window. If we do something like a Baja trip, I may add a second can to the passenger side for that. Any weight imbalance can be leveled with the air bags.
