Hello All,

We're just about ready to order a pop up camper. We've researched many brands of campers and made multiple trips to the FWC showroom/factory and to the ATC factory. Both companies produce a well designed, high quality product. We're planning to purchase the ATC Cougar in the near (maybe very near) future. There are a few minor differences in the Cougar and Grandby, but the main reason we're going with ATC is the staff. Ben, Marty, and Jeff have been very helpful and willing to answer our questions, and believe me, we've had a bunch of them! (We've been looking at campers for the last two years.) They've also been willing to at least consider making any reasonable modification we've requested.

Now for my question: Has anyone found an out of the way place to mount a fishing rod holder in a Cougar/Grandby?

Just a suggestion but how about one of the the type that attach to a boat life line stanchion. I'll bet it could be adapted to go on one of the camper jacks.

I was thinking of the type that would be mounted inside the camper for storage and travel. We currently have one mounted in our non cab over Alaskan camper. It has plastic brackets that attached to the bottom of the over head cabinet, split foam pieces that accept the two haves of the fishing pole, and velcro straps to secure the poles in the foam. The package said it was built to store/carry poles on a boat. I'd like to find a more secure arrangement. This one will loosen up over time and bumpy roads.

I've given fishing pole storage a lot of thought over the years. I haven't tried these ideas yet so they are just ideas.

First. Go to the home center and buy some 6" PVC pipe. an end cap. a slip to threaded female coupling and a screw in plug. Cut the pipe to fit the poles. Line the bottom of the pipe with that non slip net style drawer liner to cushion/ protect the poles. Assemble and U-bracket to the roof rack. Or. this is the route I will probably go. Get the cheapest pole holder you can find and attach it to the shelf behind the sofa back. Out of the way and easily accessible. Good luck with your new camper and welcome to the forum.

how about cutting down a piece of oak, stain it to match the other inside oak and attach one on each side of the side window then go to home depot (my favorite place) and find some clips like small mop holders and screw them into the oak in a nice line. this will give you a space for your curtains to work and hold four or five 7 1/2 foot rods. the fire ext would need to be relocated. the law says in should be within 24 inches of the door.

I have seen some interesting ideas over the years for this one. The PVC pipe idea is a popular one. I have seen a couple of customers mount this one to the roof for the poles.

I have seen the standard pole holders for boats mounted on the inside of the camper and they seemed happy with them.

As for myself and carrying poles, I have some pole holding tubes that my grandfather gave me years ago. They will each hold about 3 poles if I need to take that many and I just put the tubes behind the couch on the ledge next to the window.

We placed our order for an ATC Cougar last Friday! Even though some of the options we wanted were a little out of the norm, the process came off without a hitch. We're looking forward to taking delivery in April, and many years of camping.
