For many of us Lassen Volcanic NP is one of our 'backyard treasures'.  This month is the 100th anniversary of the eruption that made it famous.  Lots of events for those interested in that kind of history.  Next year is the centennial of the park so even more coming up for 2016.

Cool. :)

Growing up ( jr high - high school) in Palo Cedro east of Redding, we could see Mt Lassen from our back deck.  I remember thinking it would have been cool to be living there in 1915 watching from 40 miles away.  :o

While on the volcano topic.

Has anybody checked out the web cam at Hawaiian Volcano's NP. It's the Overlook crater webcam.

With the new eruption from the Overlook crater it's pretty fantastic.

If you check it out at dark hours you can see the lava fountains.

Now back to Lassen.

That is one of our favorites. It is probably the most visited area for us.In 1991 I hiked to the top during a solar eclipse.

Pretty cool. We have done a lot of camping and hikeing there.

Will be through there beginning of July.

Happy 100th

Frank

One of my favorite National Parks. I didn't realize it was 100 years.

Mom Spider grew up in the area and remembers the stories her grandfather told about watching the eruption.
