Planning a mid-week trip second or third week of October to the east side of the Sierra's. We are watching several websites to decide when to go. Did the trip in 2016, but not last year as we were in Switzerland. I find the eastern Sierra magical in the Fall. Do you have a favorite area you like to go to and take in the fall color?

These are the websites we are watching:

California Fall Color.

California Fall Color Map.

Fall Colors in Mono County.

Leaving this Thursday morning, late. Going out of Bishop into Buttermilk Country for four nights. Towing my jeep so I can run around and go look at North Lake, Sabrina and South Lake, etc. I read some reports from 9/22 and I may be right on target. Kinda felt I would be too early but it's the only time available. We'll see. A bad day in the Buttermilk's is better than a good day in many other places.

Just got back for what was supposed to be a quick trip to Crater Lake (the one in Lassen County north of Lassen Park-Butte Lake side) for a quick equipment check (truck makeover), then either the coast or south on 395. I had heard that there was no one there and it would be a good place for Bob to exercise his back legs before we headed out and test his new diet (canned crap) and much to my surprise there was no one there 'cept; a few day fisher types and ended up staying for six days. Got there as the first aspens were starting to turn there; allot more when I left today-the lake is at over 6500', A yearling bear visited cg-they usually don't come up there! Everything is on the verge of exploding into color here in Lassen County-trying to get out again somewhere in the next few days!

Three ospreys spent the days fishing, 40's at night, cool early morning, windy and hot afternoons, nights okay! Fishing okay, lot of small ones, any colored eggs and fly fisher types seem to be catching 'em! Supposed to get hotter this week; a temp drop next week! Somehow left my camera and coffee filters home so was worth it to take the 45 min trip here to stock up and head out again. Bob's stomach did not like his new diet-will he eat his special dry stuff? .Meat bees were out and because I was the only one there they moved in and I had to cook and eat inside camper( understand the; same problem is going on up north)-this strange hot fall must be messing up there clocks-but they were still tolerable !!. ! Friday and Saturday got quite crowd of kayaks and the like (no motors allowed there) but a well behaved bunch and no noise, left on Sunday morning!

Anyway, it is a good place to stop right now and despite the bees is worth the trip! Saw a white PU with 4wheel pop-up parked off 44 by the Silver Lake cut off-did not have time to stop! Keep me posted on where everyone is headed, might meet up if I can. Hey Bob you still out and about or are you a home body now ? Boy it sure is pretty here, going somewhere soon! End of East Side Fall Color Rep

The aspens are staring to show nice color in Hope Valley. It is not at its peak, but there are nice displays. We hope this means a nice year for fall colors.

We were in the general West Fork Carson River/Blue Lakes area this weekend for a couple of nights to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. :)
