Does anyone know of a mapping software (preferably free) that can be used to record a trip?  All the mapping software I find want's to tell me the most efficient way to drive and it changes the route and the order of my stops. It can't seem to handle the idea that one can spend multiple nights at the same spot and takes day trips from that spot. Or maybe it is user error on my part.  :-)

I find I'm getting a little fuzzy on the specific details of some past trips.

thanks

Are you asking about planning routes, or recording where you go? Assuming you mean recording, this is very popular for bicycle riding. I use apps like Strava and RideWithGPS and MapMyRide. But they don’t work well for driving and mess up others who are going for fastest times. In Strava I’ve recorded a route, made it private, and changed it to Kite Surfing. Then I can make a heat map of camping trips. It’s not ideal. These apps are for human powered activities.

If it’s for routing, try RideWithGPS. You have total control over the route. google Maps can also be altered but if you leave cellular service doesn’t work as well.

Bottom line: I’m searching too!

I thought I had figured out a work around.  I was using Google my maps and adding a layer for each day.  But then I got to the 10th layer and Google said no more layers.  Darn.

Yeah, Google My Maps are limited. But somewhere on line I found a utility to combine GPX files, and it’s possible to import these as one layer. Can’t remember where...

Look at the "AllCamperTrails" layer for an example: https://drive.google...81Q&usp=sharing
