I don't know about you, but the rampant consumerism of the holidays eats at me. I have to look away and maybe find the spirit of the holidays buried somewhere. It is still out there....................

If you've read our recent blog stories, you have followed the story of our southern California transplants move to Montana's Bitterroot Valley.

We recently heard from Muir Trek that Outdoor Woman went back to work. I asked for clarification as both of them seemed entrenched in blissful retirement. What gives? Here's the story. I hope it warms your heart as it did ours -

"Cliff notes version-

We had some friends come over last week, they have a 6 Yr old and a 3 Yr old.  We took the family to Cabela's in Missoula.   Cabela's was setting up "Santa's Village"...The 6 Yr old lifted up the tarps hiding the area and peered underneath as they were setting up the village....they invited the kids in to sit on Santa's chair.

Well one thing led to another and Outdoor Woman mentioned that she use to play Mrs. Claus at Day Cares, Nursing Homes and family gatherings during the holidays.  She was asked to go on line and apply; went in Monday morning for an interview and was offered the job.  She will start as soon as the drug test and background investigation is complete.  She is going to be Mrs. Claus for the season.

So you better be good because she has Santa's ear."

Yup, the consumerism (magnified by some advanced age) has become a real irritant with me.

Regarding Outdoor Woman going back to work... I couldn’t do it. Kudos to her.

The best "consumerism" I can do is have our kids and us together during the holidays.

This year it's back to Barcelona. That's the type of spending I like.

Yeah I know we were just there 2 weeks ago.

Oh well someone has to keep the airlines in business.

Have a great holiday season.

There are so many different holiday celebrations to enjoy.
