People are starting to worry about snow weight on roofs around here. Our friends, the Spiders have tight interior doors and new cracks in wall texturing. I bought an Avalanche Roof Snow Removal tool, a pretty clever gadget - actually I built a homemade version first to test if it would work. It did, but there were limits to its structure and strength so I bought the real thing.  The Spiders came over to show Julie how to use it as I had first loaned it to them for their roof. It had a hard time with the hard lower layer of hard rained on snow. Softer snow it cut like butter. In the first video we dropped a huge pile of snow in the top driveway and blew it away with the tractor. It was Barking Spider's 70th birthday on Tuesday, so for a birthday present I taught him how to run the tractor and blower.

Why was I not working? In the middle of these big storms I had cataract surgery in both eyes with instruction to do no strenuous exercise, no heavy lifting, and no bending over. I wanted to help and every time I moved close to a shovel three people started yelling at me.

If I ever do another house it is going to have a steep pitched, metal roof.  And I am going to be up there in September waxing the $%@^* thing.

After several winters of below average snowfall, we (Flagstaff) finally got a big storm. The official snowfall yesterday was 35.9 inches. Next Friday, the high is supposed to be 51F. Yes, I shoveled off my roof of both the house and the camper. The older section of the house has 2x4 roof joists, though they are old growth Ponderosa pine.

I'd be really, really tempted to try the circle track racer's product called "Mud-Off". See if it would last a season. Heck of a lot less work than waxing a roof. :)

Friday morning early, US395 somewhere north of Lee Vining, in-car thermometer said outside was -1°F; I'm not used to KA having those kinds of conditions:

Mud off? Might be a good idea for the truck and the Jeep!

We laughed at "three people yelling" comment.  Good luck with new, improved eyes!

Friends in Idaho used tarps to shed the snow off their Palomino, which sort of worked.

I'm more interested in snow removal from my Sprinter high roof van.  I've been on a six foot ladder twice to push half a foot or more of snow off the roof during this winter series of storms.

WINTER STORM WARNING
ISSUED: 2:48 PM FEB. 23, 2019 – NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM PST
WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 14
inches expected.

* WHERE...Central Oregon.

* WHEN...Until 4 AM PST Wednesday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult to
impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning
or evening commute.

Yeah, I know:  "..7 to 14 inches.." over 3 days is considered "Heavy snow" ??  :rolleyes: Well...we are high desert here in central Oregon, so maybe with that in mind...

The memory of the snowmageddon winter 2016-2017 is still fresh, so I'm not complaining that we're only getting a foot of snow.  Actually, I believe that all snow greater than 4 inches deep belongs in the mountains.  And Bend is at 3,500 feet, but isn't in the mountains. ;)

After raining/sprinkling lightly most of the night it's now snowing very lightly -- and wetly -- at 32°F.

Looks like most of the Great Basin Desert is windy, from southern OR over to western WY and all across NV -- based on all those wind waves in the clouds:

Here in Central Oregon the wind is still light...but with trees starting to move a bit.

Packing the rain gear for the next few days. Looks like Ski can put away the snowblower on this round. Some amazing amounts of snow predicted at pass level. 100 inches for Lassen?
