Snow is in the high country and skiing season is here.

 

Our local California Highway Patrol helicopter has hoist capabilities which enabled lifting this severely injured skier from Mount Tallac along the west shore of Tahoe. The injured skier was handed off to a waiting CalStar medivac helicopter for transport to a trauma center -

The injured skier is fortunate. Not many areas have rescue helicopters with hoist or short haul capabilities suitable for this situation.
