Im in the process of buying a new truck, what I currently have has been working very good a 2012 Ford F150  Supercab with a 2013 fully loaded Hawk.  But my dog who accompanies me on many camping/fishing and rafting trips is getting older so I'm in the market for a Ford F150 Crewcab (four door)

where he can rest comfortably.

Anyway what I'm wondering is what are the differences in dimension  between a 2012 and a 2019 6.5 ft F150 bed are and if anyone has moved from a 2012-2016 Ford to a 2019?

From what I can glean the bed is slightly wider but I don't want to make a costly mistake.

Thanks

A bit off topic, but do you have a ramp for the dog to get in and out of the truck. It makes life easier for older dogs.

No totally not off topic, I have a a ramp that is rated to 200lbs.  My Pyranees dog is about 130 or so.

I had a few minutes this evening, so I did a google search for the specifications for both the 2012 F150 and the 2019 F150.

Did a couple of screen captures from the PDF brochures from each year and then combined them into one image for you.

Hope that helps you out.

Another aid for big dogs into a popup camper or back of a SUV is the Ottostep. It’s a platform that goes into the hitch receiver so the dog can get in. Otto was a St Bernard.

I use one in the Bobcat.

Here's the web links to each year PDF brochure.

2012 F-150 Specifications

2019 F-150 Specifications Dated for 2018 and that was the most recent one I could find. I think all the aluminium F150's have been the same since 2015.

Exactly what I needed, thanks!  Basically the newer F150's are about a half inch wider and the bed is an inch lower.

Weird that Ford made the bed an inch lower, I wonder if they got a lot of complaints about people not being able to reach into the bed?

Anyway looks like my Hawk will be another inch above the bed/cab.  Samson the mighty Great Pyrenees is about to get a lot more lounging room, he's in the working dog group but I don't think he's done an honest days work.

It's a great life if you can get it.

A critical measurement will also be the distance from the cargo box bottom to the top of the cab, to see if it matches your camper to have enough space between the truck cab to under camper cab over. I think I've read that most guys are looking at least 1.5 inches for twisting of the cargo box vs the twisting of the truck cab.

For the 2012 F150 you could just measure it on your truck. I did see that some math could be derived from the 2012 PDF. Overall height from ground to top of truck, minus distance from ground to bottom of cargo box.

For the 2019 you may have to go to a Ford dealer and measure one on the lot. I did NOT see the required dimensions on the 2019 PDF.

I'm going to put a tape measure to the 2019 Fords...I'll report back what I find. Interesting at least to me is the way Ford just keeps refining their engines, both the 5.0 and 3.5 get better gas mileage than my 2012 3.5 and more horsepower and torque.

Btw if anyone is in the market for a new vehicle and they are a member of COSTCO, their auto buying service is pretty good.

And it takes the hassle out of haggling with the dealer.  I don't think I can beat their price.

Just got a 2018 5.0 fx4. Let me know if you need any additional measurements.
