I am an insurance agent

there are 2 ways to do it.

You can have it as a stand alone policy much like a traditional RV.

You can also add it to your truck as described above. It would be a minor addition to the truck. Also when off the truck your homeowners "may" cover it. Depends on your carrier. I double asked about that exact scenario and its covered.

I can insure through Foremost or Farmers in CA, AZ or TX. Let me know if you need help

Interesting. I am with Farmers and insure it separately from the truck. They said if it caught fire the truck wouldn't be covered if it got damaged or totally burned. Will have to check again with them.

Update. Being in Nevada I have to insure separately with Farmers. No choice. I insure everything with them so will stick with it. Being an older Sunlite Eagle it costs me $80.00 annually. .

Yesterday I had a long conversation with USAA and their adjuster Each state has different laws and rules. In Indiana, they access the camper the same way they do a car. They will get comp. prices for a fully loaded 2014 Grandby to come up with a replacement cost.

Been with USAA 27 years. Called them up, added 2019 Hawk, no change in premium as it is part of the truck. All they needed was the purchase price. Took about 3 minutes. Booya!

We're with AllState in Colorado. Our Hawk is insured as part of the truck (we don't take it off so I have not looked into that). AllState covered all repairs needed to the camper from last year's epic hail storm (~$4k) and we have full replacement value as I understand it. Although... it took finding the right person at AllState to figure out it was insured with the truck and not separately. I will have my agent double check a few things you all have brought up though!

Be sure you know where it is still insured when off the truck. State Farm here in Oregon only covers them on your own property or rental property when not mounted on the truck.
