Interesting to hear people so concerned about range.  I also ride a motorcycle, a dual sport, so it's off road and on.  It has a range just shy of 200 miles.  I haven't had an issue with finding fuel within 150 miles or so, and it also gives me a break to stretch my legs.  I can't imagine ever needing a range of 600 miles, wow.

Well, several folks - myself included - are planning trips up into the Yukon/NWT/Alaska.  Here is one jaunt that requires a health 1000km range

There might be fuel in Tungsten or Ross River, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

^ No for Tungsten, yes for Ross R, - not that we needed it

 

ON EDIT check Faro also. Funny Ross R was mentioned. We drove the North Canol starting from there to just past the NWT border. Back at Ross R we fueled up again, putting in a little over 40g. That was one of the few, but not the only, remote drives we've done where the main/oem 40g tank wouldn't have provided enough range. Was ~300 miles total travel. Back then, when stock, the truck used to burn more fuel. And usually off highway mileage is worse. I can think of a few other 'in and back' drives where the extra capacity was really nice to have, but not necessary. YMMV. Of course that's what jerry cans are for...

And if the 7.3 gets 14mpg, I'm in too !!

We are going to Alaska /YT next summer as well.
We’ll have to see if we can plan a WTW rondevous in some remote area next year!

What is in Tungsten? That was not on our radar...

May want to find a destination more off the beaten path. The tourist rush may be overwhelming.

I get it, and I'm not arguing, I just think it's an intersting conversation.  It's like a lot of things we justify.  Hell, I ride a motorcycle because it gets 50 mpg, so it pays for itself versus driving my truck.  That's what I told the wife when I had one (a wife).  Reality of it though is it's more fun than driving a cage and the fuel savings means little.

 

A trip, even a few trips, doesn't necessitate the range you need to get to...anywhere.  But, it's nice to have the range 100% of the time even if you only use it once, regardless of whether you "need" it.  There are other ways to skin that cat.
