We picked up a Little Red Firepit for those (frequent) times when there are fire bans.

Looks much better than others that I have seen.

BTW, We've camped in BC on Vancouver Island twice a year for the past 10+ years.  Usually before May long weekend and then again after Sept long weekend.  We like to avoid the crowds.  Spring is wet and fresh.  Summer/Fall is hot and dry.  We love both seasons.  Yes there is typically a fire ban in the summer months, but not in all locations (especially on the island).

We've seen a few of the propane fire pits and rented one once, but it was ugly and boring compared the the Little Red Firepit.  I like how the flame dances around from different directions and is various sizes.
