If there is one place not to miss it is the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. Incredible and the village is a nice place to relax.

Definately, I had forgotten about it.

I have successfully used USA Rest Stops to find -- rest stops.
And I've used Allstays Camp & RV to find all kinds of campgrounds. (unfortunately, no longer available for Android, though my copy still works).
This 2 apps are great for road trips. Not for route planning but for places to stop
