Mr. Graves, thanks for reading and thank you for your nice comment!

Hello SKI

Your words and images capture so very well what is most important to us in our travels.

When I am bummed out by all life's crowded places and situations I thank goodness that so few folks enjoy what you are talking about.

Heaven forbid there become a facebook page for "quiet empty spaces."

Yes, you know Schat's! Seems we passed on the highway the last time you visited the springs. :) We are looking forward to seeing your story!  Thanks for the nice comment.

We were in the same neck of the woods.  I was coming back from a glorious week (6 days) at Saline Valley and I saw a lot of pop ups, but I missed you all.

I'm glad you were able to grab a sandwich at Schat's.  When I went by, the place was a mad house with lines out the door, so I had to settle on a hot dog and a bag of Funyuns at the gas station.

Thanks for sharing your trip.

John,

thank you for your nice comment, it is appreciated! :)

Thanks for the ride along. If I were camped there, I would never want to leave. Silence is golden and we always love the coyotes and especially the owls. There calls put you to sleep and wake you up with a smile. Wonderful trip. jd

Just a quick note - I've corrected an error that was pointed out to me by a friend. I've made this correction -

"The White Mountains hemmed us in on the east with White Mountain Peak's  profile fading last into the night. White Mountain is the highest peak in the Great Basin and the third highest in California. A list of California's highest can be found here - List of Major 3000 meter peaks in California."

My friend also mentioned speculation - unconfirmed but possible - that with the continued uplift of the Whites and with modern accurate measurements now possible - that White Mountain could be the highest peak in the contiguous United States. The Lone Pine lobby is hard at work covering up that information. :)

Spent last weekend is the same area SKI wandered. Hiked to the snow line up Horton Lakes off of Buttermilk Road. Enjoyed the Volcanic Tablelands. Ended up at Eureka Dunes before heading home to the “grind.”
