Hey guys, I have a 2014 Bobcat that I love.  I've currently got it on a 2000 Tundra with a ton of miles and the truck is getting very tired.  I was looking to upgrade to a newer tundra of the same generation with less miles.  My hunt hasn't been going very well.  It seems that this generation of truck has almost developed a cult status and the used price and availability is very reflective of that.

My Bobcat was in a bit of a wreck from the previous owner and though it's 100% functional with the damage I don't think the resale would let me make a horizontal move for a FWC or ATC of the same quality so in other words I think I'll probably end up buying trucks to fit the camper.

I've been going over the used market and the fact that the F150 has been the best selling vehicle in American means there is a pretty solid supply out there.

From just looking at the stats (below) there doesn't seem to be a huge difference in the bed size from the Tundra to the F150.  The biggest seems to be the bed rail height which would be fairly easy to deal with by adding some plywood sheets under the camper.

I use tripod jacks and already have steel plates bolted to the lifting part to allow for the smaller camper on a wider truck (my tundra has the big trd wheel flares which stick out quite a ways)

Anyways, thoughts about a Bobcat on a full size truck?

Thanks!

Jeff, when I was thinking about moving my Bobcat to a F150, Marty told me it was doable, but I would need to put a platform under it to get needed clearance. He also recommended considering a Nissan Frontier.

TruckCamper.jpg I had a 2002 Tundra AC 4x4 V6 manual I bought new for work and added a 78" ATC Ocelot when I retired in 2013.  Drove from Texas to Alaska, to the CA, OR, WA coast twice, SD, WY, MO, and ID twice, and many trips from TX to CO, OK, AR, and NM as well as AZ, UT, and NV.  Both were totaled last October in an accident in NM.   I got 6500 for the truck that had 275000 miles, and 11500 for the camper from the other drivers insurance co.  I ended up buying another 2006 Tundra 4x4 V8 with 150000 miles I found in Albuquerque for 10000 and had ATC build me a new 78" Ocelot to fit the smaller "type 1" Tundra shell for 10000.  Marty said the Ocelot design was originally for the older Tundra.  I just bought the shell and had them put in a smaller non-exit window with the door offset 6 on the driver's side.   The total weight was 650lbs, and I couldn't be happier.   I built the camper out with a side dinette, that folds down to sleep one,  a 12V Truck Fridge, and two burner propane stove. I am estimating that I added about 200 lbs.

I am happy with the 2006 Tundra. It already had 10 ply tires with the tow package and better stereo.  I had my mechanic change the timing belt and they also replaced the radiator which was leaking. With taxes and license the total cost was about 12000.
