Howdy from Jackson Hole!

Please, Please talk me out of this. I'm fantasizing about adding small 1950's Shasta trailer wings to my Fleet. Turns out we can buy them new. Cedar board covered with aluminum siding: https://www.ebay.com...497.m4902.l9144

I suspect this guy would downsize it to our specs.

My camper lives outside on my truck 24/7/365 per year in heavy snow country. Water could build up & drain down into the wall. The wing might be used as a hand hold and break. Why put ketchup on a fine steak? Problems finding secure attachment to frame and waterproofing holes for even dry times. Why not just buy a '59 Caddy you jokester?

Please talk me out of this.

Ok....It is a crazy idea! I looked at photos of vintage Shasta campers and they looked bad then.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the "How to Mount Your Shasta-Wings on Jack Brackets" thread once this trend takes hold.

Yeah, my idea is clearly a case of drinking beer while having an imagination!

I figured not blocking refrigerator vents would stop the project, but then realized offset spacers could give a couple inches of space and still provide solid 3 point attachment to the frame.

Somebody on Ebay is selling them made out of PVC, which might be more practical: https://www.google.c...chrome&ie=UTF-8

3/4" PVC sheets are available to us mortals: https://www.google.c...chrome&ie=UTF-8

3/4" PVC is available for DIY'ers in assorted colors. I think grey would be a practical start (PVC doesn't age in sunlight & grey might fade gracefully; who wants to maintain paint?). Spacers made from 2 strips of PVC glued together would hold it 1.5 inches away from the vents. Done in pieces on the top edge to allow air movement. A 1" spade bit drilling polka dots would also help.

Minimize the amount it sticks out the back to 6 or 8 inches, for less collateral damage from crosswinds on I-80.

Another  crazy idea... Using industrial strength velcro to attach things without drilling into the wall: https://smile.amazon...way&sr=8-4&th=1

Then there's the issue of civic responsibility if/when the wing falls off... Perhaps an unsightly safety cord going down to the jack bracket? Or who cares? "What me worry?"--Alfred E. Neuman

I'm hammered by home projects for now, hoping somebody actually smart takes the torch & posts pictures.

Yes, I've given thought to mounting wings on 1 inch 80 20 stock, but a lot of us are waiting for plans putting a fold down table on our jack stands. Possibly a side mount ski rack also.

This is interesting.  It would give your camper a bit of a Captain America look...
