The shoes were too much. At night, we sometimes had 4 pairs of shoes on the floor (sandals & tennis shoes).
So I got the idea of a shelf. It was simple and has worked out far better than expected. Not only a place to put shoes, but other stuff, and it has hooks as well for clothing and the garbage bag.
It goes up and down in seconds and the only mods to the camper are two 1/8" holes in the panel. Put a block of wood behind the panel when you drill the holes. The two hole in the shelf to anchor the turnbuckles when travelling are essential. If not anchored, the turnbuckles will twist loose and you have to hunt around on the camper floor to find the top turnbuckle ends.
It's 48" x 8.5". The back edge (against the panel) has a 1" aluminum right angle bar and the front has a 1/2" right angle bar to give the 5 mm (Home Depot has 5 mm - call it 1/4") shelf rigidity. I pop-riveted the bars to the shelf. 8.5" is enough for shoes - you could go a few more inches without any problem of bumping into the shelf. The hole for the panel strap is 3/4" x 1 1/2" and is 1 1/8 inch (center of hole) from the back.of the shelf. On our front dinette camper, the hole is 20" from the end on the stove side. Other camper configurations may accommodate a longer shelf and a different positioning.
