Howdy from Jackson Hole!

I want to mount a couple of lightweight 3/4" PVC Type 1 faux Shasta wings to my camper, and prefer doing it myself. It'll be easy finding the frame. I'll be using stainless steel lag screws and washers, and sealing underneath with butyl tape ('cause that's how FWC sealed my 2017 latches).

Questions:

*  I drill the hole and ratchet in the lag bolt. How much throw do I need going into the frame?

*  I'm worried about the threads of the lag screws either having too much bite (impossible to tighten down) or too little bite (not secure & can't be corrected). Educate me.

*  Should I start with a smaller pilot hole first? Never having done this before, I'm worried about screwing up my baby FWC.

*  Is there a better way of doing this? I've considered 3M Dual Lock Industrial "Velcro": https://www.amazon.c...c8-f37f2ab7fd5a

What do you think about this easier, harebrained idea?

*  Yes, I could take it to the dealer, but  I like DIY & Denny of Jackson Hole FWC is sooo busy.
