Three years ago a group of us met in late October in VotG for a weekend.  Most were from parts far removed from Utah but were traveling the southwest in the fall.

Curious if there is any interest in a similar gathering again in October/November whether it is in VotG, KofA or someplace else.

So if you live in the area and are interested or have fall plans that make it so you will be travelling in the southwest and would be interested post up with ideas for location and dates and we'll see what happens.

Cheers!

Bob

A great idea, but I'm spending October at John Day, Oregon giving tours at Kam Wah Chung which limits when I can meet everyone.  Don't plan around me but if it is late September or early November I might be able to make it.

Camping with a small trailer.  Everyday is a good day to go camping.

This sounds like a great idea and hopefully an opportunity to meet new friends and learn about some of the lesser known hidden treasures in the area!

Will there be side excursions and local insights? I hope so!

Keep me posted!

If you are going to the Valley of the Gods, you might check out John’s Canyon which is just west of VotG. It is accessible by road off the road to Gooseheck State Park. I will probably be in Johns in late October. Camped there in March when the VotG was a quagmire due to rains. Also, camping on Cedar Mesa above the Mogi Dugway can give you great views. In late September, I’ll be up in the mountains of Colorado between Rico and Dunton.

I know that the last weekend in October and the first weekend of November are out for me. Beyond that I'm headed to Colorado over Labor Day so probably would want it at least at the end of September but open to suggestions.

It's been 3 years since our meet-up? Time flies. I'm certainly interested and barring the unforeseen would attend.

My schedule is currently wide open. Late September through October seems ideal weather-wise. The days are getting short in November.

John's Canyon is very cool, though more isolated than VotG, if folks were thinking about day trips. But then again, maybe there are hiking opportunities up there, too. I've only been up that way once, but seemed like there were limited areas for group camping (I recall only two, but wasn't really looking from a group perspective).

There are a few areas that a group could utilize up Lower Butler Wash Road, too, and maybe Comb Wash, though I'm less familiar with that area.

We should also remember this is prime camping season in SE Utah, so there will be competition for sites. This might argue for VotG as there are more opportunities for group camping there and pretty much all sites have a spectacular view.

San Rafael Swell, GSENM or someplace around Hite would be some other options to consider.  Lots of places to think about imeeting if people are going to be wandering...
