I just read that Ford will come out with a hybrid F-150, maybe in 2020. All you would have to do is hook up the hybrid batteries to the camper and viola, all the power you are likely to need.  Maybe add solar for very long stays?

Not that I am going to replace my truck, but for new purchasers, it would be an interesting way to go.

I'm not sure how the F-150 hybrid will work. But on our Prius, you can't get to the "traction" battery power unless the car is turned on. I suppose you could turn it on, but the system wants to keep the engine warmed up, so every so often it'll fire up the gas.

Maybe the F-150 will have an option to use the traction battery energy though, like for power tools. Our Taco has the 110V inverter in the truck bed for that, up to 400W if the engine is on. (I can't remember the power with engine off, guessing 100W).

The Hybrid battery systems (HV) in those type of vehicles typically run at least 250V.

Ford is over 300 volts.

How are you going to connect to a 12V system?  Sure, it could be done but why and at what cost?

For the price of a 2020 F150 I can buy 40,000+ Honda generators and a few thousand extension cords. And have money left over for gas.

Ford overall is leading the truck market with their innovative ideas. Yep they are not the cheapest ride out there but great trucks. Who knows what they will bring to the table next. My bet is it’s going to be sweet!
