Thanks, Vic.

Eddie - Unfortunately, I can't help you regarding camping in Bellingham area, as we stayed in a hotel that night.  Many years ago when we were tenting it, we pulled into Bellingham after a very long day on the road.  We were beat and decided to stay at a Comfort Inn on Meridian Rd.  That night we ate at an Olive Garden next to the hotel just before they closed.  Can't tell you why (maybe the two glasses of wine) but it was an extremely relaxing and enjoyable evening.  So, every time we go through Bellingham on our way north, we spend the night there and eat at the Olive Garden.  BTW, it has never lived up to the first time but we continue to do it.  I'm sure someone else on WTW will chime in with camp spots for you.  Regarding the bear viewing trip, we're generally not reservation makers but I believe for that particular company you will need to book fairly early.  There are plenty of services that will take you on bear viewing excursions to the Katmai area (Brooks Falls, etc.) but I highly recommend Emerald Air.  We went with them in 2014 and again this year.  I stumbled across them in 2014 on the internet.  At that time, Trip Advisor had 88 reviews on them and 87 were "five stars."  If you like, I can post our slide show from that trip.  The bear viewing was considerably better at that time due to an abundance of salmon.

Southern California Adventurer - Great photos!  As to why people would go in July as opposed to September, we do it to escape the brutal summertime heat where we live and because when I worked (I was a teacher), the job dictated summer vacations.  Our next trip up there will likely be later for the reasons you cite.
