I agree...once on the road I stop consciously thinking about it as getting away means 'getting away from worry'.

That said I am lucky to own the mini diesel Colorado. 23mpg and no lower than 20 mpg with the camper loaded. Have even done 28 mpg with a good tailwind.

...Noticed it was $5.19 in Lee Vining, CA this morning.

I don't think I've ever bought gas in Lee Vining (except propane).  But I have bought gasoline in similarly stratospherically-priced Bridgeport, CA.  As crazy as the gas prices are there, I want to encourage the availability of it -- just in case. :)

I truly feel sorry for you folks in CA. I heard that the recent spike in costs was due to your proprietary fuel blend and at least one refinery being down...

I've actually seen diesel cheaper than gas a one or two stations. This is when I'm glad I have a 35 gal tank. I can make it to the casinos to fuel up. I just don't make the mistake of leaving Sac without a full tank. Diesel at 3.79 gal  if you shop around.

Saw $1.729/L nearby, that's up a few cents from when I posted six days ago. And is the highest by far I've ever seen around here. Must be all the taxes - carbon tax included.

Converts to ~$4.88USD. 'Course, If you don't buy gas here, no matter...

To the poll question, Agree with PR, a truck camper can still be a cheap(ish) way to travel. Though I've heard, anecdotally, some pretty inexpensive airfares and all inclusive vacations.

For us, at this point, the cost won't stop us from taking vacation road trips (I hope). Helps that diesel has almost always been cheaper where we've been and expect same in near future. And, besides, coffins have no pockets. But the weekend trips have stopped for the most part. I'll sooner spend 2K on 2 weeks fuel for a big trip then $150 on a weekender here and there. Gotta save sometimes !

$3.95 gal in Auburn yesterday. No matter how you try to justify it, it sucks!! It was 10-11 gals short of a fill up but I guess there was a $100 limit!?

I just got back from a 3 week road trip through Arizona and New Mexico. The cheapest gas I saw was $2.34 but that climbed to $2.75 by the end of the trip. I made sure I had a full tank before crossing the Colorado.

One thing I noticed was that there was no credit card surcharge until I returned to Calif.

Paid $4.39/gal at a local Valero (Texas bandits ) when filling the RV for a quick trip up to the Rincon Parkway. Only gave them $25 worth for the quick 30-mile trip.
