I just saw an FWC Hawk on a blue Ford (F150?) on Florida SR29 south of Labelle at the Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest turnoff. Carrying a kayak. I followed him for a few miles but he turned west for Fort Myers and I’m southbound for the Picayune Strand State Forest.

Old Crow hello again. Are you 'wintering' in the south? I hope to start next winter leaving the frozen northeast and heading to warmth...maybe watch a rocket go up or paddle around looking at birds. Love to know good routes and places to pop up getting there. Happy travels!

Hey, buckland... sorry I’m slow to reply. Yep, I’m on my annual tour of Florida backcountry for a few weeks. When your plans firm up, drop me a PM and perhaps I can help. I kinda travel all over the state, typically overnighting at national and state forests, wildlife management areas, etc. with a visit here and there to a beach.

I’m also hoping to get up to one of your favorites, the North Maine Woods, this year. We were at the Rangeley and Baxter areas al peak color last Fall but ran out of time to explore further.

Lol... I was passed by a Swift on a white Tacoma about an hour ago on I-95 in Florida near the Kennedy Space Center turnoff. California plate ‘SPEYROD’. He slowed to a sane speed alongside me to wave hello then disappeared in the distance in very short order.

Here's the real thing.

Yesterday 13 Mar 2019 Pinnacles NP west side.

Didn't get a chance to "talk" with the owner.

It stayed around long enough to see it about 10 minutes

later walking along the road and then scooting off into the chaparral.

Always a treat to view these critters.

Don't know the model but it looks like it has four on the floor.

Looks like maybe a couple year old one.

Yes a four on the floor and off road usage.

Total luck sighting. No other people/cars in the area at the time.

Just caught a quick look and stopped, backed up a bit and got a look and picture through the front window.

Then a ranger came up in back of me and said I had to move.

After we parked a few minutes later we walked on the road to the tree where it was .By this time it had moved onto the road.

I think it was watching the turkey we also had spotted.

Very exciting though.

Maybe a record, outside of some sort of sponsored event?

We just returned from a quick weekend trip down the east side of the Sierra Nevada on 395 between Gardnerville and Bishop. We counted sixteen FWC's of all sorts. The ones that stood out were these - the silver bullet edition popped up in the Buttermilks climbing area parking and number 15 that pulled in a couple spaces away in Smith's parking lot in Gardnerville today as we loading groceries for home into the camper. I wanted to walk over and say hi, nice camper, that sort of thing, but the anti California stickers on the camper made me afraid to do so. Number 16 was a big flatbed unit traveling north over Luther Pass early afternoon today.
