While the error presented is remarkably void of content, what would help the person debugging the problem is a series of steps that allow them to duplicate the error.  So if you can repeat what you did when the error occurred, record those steps and the problem will be fixed much sooner.  Until one can duplicate an error, it is very hard to fix it. Bury them with data. They will be happy, not angry. I promise. Difficult to get into a TMI situation when debugging.

Before being a retired software engineer, I spent many hours trying to duplicate a problem reported by users. Besides you need a reproducible error to test the fix you put into the software to see if it was resolved.

From a dweeb happy that someone else has to fix it.

The SQL error doesn't happen in a reproducible way, not in this case anyway:

It happened when I made an edit to a post and then tried to save it, (something I've done many times before without error).  I closed my browser, and when I went back to the post and tried to edit it again and then saved it all was fine.   So, I duplicated the situation myself and this time it didn't happen.  This is the first time I've gotten this error.

Believe me, I'm not shy about communicating with the Admins.  I'm a Moderator here ("Site Team"), and getting Admin's attention to technical issues is one of my "jobs" here. ;)

I got the same error message this afternoon as I was using "view new content" and attempting to move from topic to topic.

Happening again this afternoon as I discribed above.

Happening again this afternoon as I discribed above.

Sunday 24 August I had continuous SQL error messages and just gave up until evening, then all was okay. This evening when clicking "View New Content" I went to a page that said database error.

Craig, did you try varnishing the cache server, as suggested?

OK, I just got one:

SQL Error
An error occured with the SQL server:

This is not a problem with the IPS Community Suite but rather with your SQL server. Please contact your host and copy the message shown above.

After making an edit on a post and "saving" it, the page was very slow to load...so I refreshed it a couple of times and got the error.

Just got this error.

On my iPad in Chrome running IOS 7.1.2

For the last several days, the "View New Content" consistently displayed "No new content". New content was available as indicated by the links in bold and its forum icon bolded.

I read the new content and refreshed screens to gray out the read items. Any time I tapped "View New,,.", I got "No new...". Today, I posted in the "Jokes" thread and after returning the Forums level, I tried "View New" again. I got the SQL error.

I had logged out of forum, power cycled the iPad, tried the forum on my Windows 7 desktop in both Firefox and Opera & on my Mac in Safari. The "No New Content" response was consistent. I made sure I logged out of forum in all systems.

Hope this info is useful.
