joez3 - I agree with Frank's logic regarding the ferry, but here is another option that has worked well for us in the past - drive the stretch between the border and Prince Rupert on the Yellowhead Hwy. and the Frazer River Canyon . . . . it is, for the most part, a beautiful trip and saves $ over taking the ferry for that segment.  Additionally, if you are traveling in late July or August, you can take a great side trip off of the Yellowhead to Hyder, AK to view the bears at Fish Creek and visit Salmon Glacier.  We just returned Saturday from a four week trip to AK, but this time we did not use the ferry at all just because that's the way we worked it out. I am a big fan of the ferry system but our itinerary and funds led us to drive the whole way (9,500 miles in all).  No matter what you finally decide upon, you will be awestruck by the scenery and wildlife that you encounter along the way - Richard

Richard,welcome back,glad you had a great trip.

We have done that Stewart,Hyder trip and it is fantastic.

I agree in your thinking that if one was to drive that would be the way to go.Actually the Cassiar route saves about 250 miles over driving the Alcan all the way.

Hope to hear and see your trip.

We were at Muncho Lake today and gas is 6.76 US per US gallon.  Cheapest gas or diesel from Fort Nelson to Watson Lake is at Contact Creek.. just onthe Yukon/B.C. Border on thr Alaska Highway.

We are heading down to Fort Nelson next week so will have a look at gas prices there but don't expect much better.

in Watson Lake right now about 4.76 US/US gallon at TAGS.  The camground services and the public AFD cardlock are less by a bit...
