The Friends of Arches and the Canyonlands Parks: Bates Wilson Legacy Fund provides direct financial support to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and Natural Bridges and Hovenweep National Monuments in southeastern Utah. Canyonlands includes four districts: Island in the Sky, Needles, The Maze, and The Rivers (Colorado and Green which join forces in the heart of Canyonlands.) The Friends' mission is to enhance the current efforts in these spectacular areas to conserve the land and its cultural treasures for present and future generations to enjoy.

Bates Wilson was superintendent of Arches, Natural Bridges and then Canyonlands for over 20 years, retiring in 1972. His determination in the early 1960s to make the Canyonlands a national park earned him the title "Father of Canyonlands." His legacy lives on in the dedication of all who continue working to make these parks such inspiring places to visit and explore.
