Hiking Lassen Volcanic National Park by Tracy Salcedo
we went up for a look-see last month. we found one meager campground that was not in good condition. it was next to some buildings that looked like concession stands. all was closed up...this was the weekend after labor day.
The road on the west side of the lake is marked private and is blocked off.
We were disappointed after driving all the washboard roads to get there.
This is a mostly dirt campground and the spots are not very level. The road to get here is the worst in the park - plan on miles of bad washboard. However, it's worth a trip to this corner of the park as the lake is beautiful and there are some nice trails to hike.
I love this campground. Been going there for years. No reservations accepted, but it's lovely, quiet, remote, and I think only about 15-16 sites. A couple of sites are right next to the lake. The road is indeed washboard or worse, so taking a trailer out there is not a good idea.
Lots of good places to take off an hike. You can go up to Ward lake, or hike up to Mt. Harkness for a super cool view of the south east side of Lassen park.
Well worth the trek!
