Telescope Peak Trail - Death Valley National Park - Photo by ski3pin
Telescope Peak is a alpine island at the very top of the Panamint Mountain Range. The expansive vistas and bristlecone pine forest at the summit are reached with a 7 mile hike on this trail starting at Mahogany Flats Campground. Weekends in late spring and early summer can be busy so plan on arriving early. Carry lots of water and bring extra clothing layers. It can get cold at 11049 feet, even in Death Valley National Park.
For a summer's outing in Death Valley, nothing beats the hike to the summit of Telescope Peak. From the top you can see Bad Water Basin and Mt Whitney, the low point and the high point of the Lower 48.
In early season be prepared for snow on the trail and always have some extra gear for cold or wind.
