  • Probably my favorite Yosemite campground. Just watch out for rockfall

  • Both Upper and Lower Pines CGs are crowded and usually full in the summer season.  If there is an unexpected opening, you can put your name in a hat and wait for the rangers make a draw.

Upper Pines (unlike Lower) is open in winter when it is often easier to find a site. The days are short, the nights are cold, but the Valley's crowds have thinned out.

  • I only go in the winter, I've given up with due to the summer crowds.  Upper pines before Thanksgiving you need reservations, after that no so much until about February or so.  Bring lots of LPG.  About Mid November to Mid December to February they have an ice rink, depending upon weather.  The bathroom are heated in the winter to keep the pipes from freezing, not for you enjoyment.
