Many of us have for years been waiting for the Long Valley Caldera to blow like Mt St Helens, but so far, I'm happy to report, it has held off.

When you think of all the hot springs, cinder cones, volcanoes (Mammoth Mountain), and continuing earthquakes in this area, there is able evidence this area is still very geologically active. Over the years various campgrounds have been closed because of CO2 emissions from the ground, The Long Valley Caldera is what is left of one the biggest eruptions in North America. Like we hear about many other volcanic areas, it will happen again.
