Spot Comments:

  • It's another big gravel lot but is slightly better than Stovepipe Wells in that Furnace Creek Ranch is right across the road so you can walk over to get a hot meal, a shower, or a brewski. Check out the Borax Museum while you are here - it's pretty neat.

  • Good stopping over point, if you are planning to rent a jeep it's close to the rental shops and to furnace creek but what you see is what you get, it looks more like an RV storage lot than a campground. If you keep going up the hill without turning left into the entrance to sunset there is a much nicer site up there with trees and fire pits.

  • The only good thing about this huge, treeless parking lot is the clean toilets.  The RV crowd mostly use their own campers.

Stay is Texas Springs, just up the road, if you must camp near Furnace Creek.

  • Even at the busiest time in Death Valley you can usually find a spot on this huge parking lot. It serves its purpose in this way and offers easy parking of huge motor homes and RVs.

  • Maybe I've been a little too hard on Ol' Sunset CG.  If the light is right, one can get a few pretty nice photos from this treeless parking lot!
