The best preserved charcoal kilns in the west. They are a bit far out but well worth the drive, they are both scenic and impressive.

When these kilns were in operation, there wasn't a living tree for miles in all directions.

Wildrose, Thorndike and Mahogany Flat Campgrounds are nearby as are the hikes up Wildrose Peak and Telescope Peak.

I made it there in my 2wd Toyota. It was the highlight of the trip. Still smells of pine after 100 plus years. Must visit.
