Spot Comments:

  • It's a long, almost flat ten-mile hike in an amazing forest until The Hoh River Trail leaves the river, turns south and heads up very steeply up hill to Elk Lake and Mt Olympus base camp. Explore the glacier or climb the peak up there.

There are numerous designated tent camps along the river, and log shelters (not for camping in!) near them.  On rainy days the shelters are filled with soggy backpackers trying to get out of the constant heavy downpours.

Bring good rain gear, a high-end tent, and lots of mosquito repellant. Hiking in the Olympics is not for everyone.
