The Bright Angel Trail is the classic drop from the South Rim down to the Colorado River passing by Indian Gardens on the way. You can continue up the to the North Rim and do a complete rim to rim trek. This trail is one of the busiest in Grand Canyon and the main route for mule trips.
The Bright Angel Trail above Indian Garden is very busy. Nevertheless, the tap water provided at the four rest stations make this the safest way to ascend the often hot 4500 ft from Colorado River.
It is best not to attempt hiking all the way down and back up in the same day.
