American RV, 13320 SW Pacific Hwy (old Hwy 99W), Tigard, OR 97223, (phone: 877-394-9635) recently installed Gas Spring Strut Roof Lift Assist Units - 30 lb & 40 lb on the rear & front exterior walls, respectively. My 2004 FWC Grandby only has empty kayak saddles attached to the FWC luggage rack on the roof.

I could not lower the front exterior wall with the 40 lb struts because my roof was too light in weight. So, Jeff & Clint replaced the 40 lb struts with more 30 lb struts. They work GREAT! I am glad I did not try to install the struts myself.

Refer to: SUSPA brand, Lift Assist Gas Spring Struts: 15/36; Part # C16-22241.

For sales & service contact American RV in Tigard, OR. Jeff, Clint and the lovely Keri will take good care of you.

Thanks for posting this - I had been holding off on ordering gas springs for my FWC Hawk because I couldn't track down the part number for the 30 lb version.

I just researched this too for my 2015 Grandby.
I've ordered 40 lbs for front and back with my heavier solar setup. I'll let you know if I can't lower the roof but I doubt that will be the problem.

Here's the info FWC gave me on my model:

Suspa
40 lbs
c16-15952
36 inches long

30 lbs
C16-22241
36 inches long

If you go to the Suspa site there you will find mounts.

There are a few different styles.

Might give them a call.

If you want more info go to the Truck Campers forum and you will find the the post on  "Roof lifting helper shocks thingys".

The original post was started by the Saints.

My shocks are Suspra #c16-15952 and bracket # p67-00203.

Read through the first 8 or so pages of posts and you should find all the info you need.

If you go to Suspa.com you can find all the parts you need.

One thing about buying from Suspa is they have a 5 year warranty.

struts  16-15952  $30 each 40#

brackets (straight)  p67-00203  $3 each

Hope all this helps.PM me if you need more info.
