XP V1 Winter Travel

Does anyone with experience using the XP v1 in winter have any tips/advice that might not be obvious?

 

One issue for us is that we will be leaving the truck parked  (1 to 3 days) unattended while ski touring, so we'll have to learn how long the batteries last with the heat running at a low setting (roof down) if we're not around to clear snow off the solar panels.   When it gets cold we can do some testing at home, I can post results if anyone is interested.

I wasn't able to keep the furnace running that long. I lived in mine one winter, mostly in the Sierra and Wyoming. I had four batteries, three solar panels, and the furnace just barely on. It didn't run out of diesel and it appeared to still have good power, but it would quit running and need to be periodically restarted. It did that even when plugged into shore power. I suspect XP has figured out what the glitch was by now, but it was still unresolved at the time I sold it.
I know one XPV1 owner that uses a very small space heater to keep his from freezing inside, instead of the Webasto furnace. You might consider that as a backup.

We haven't had any problems with ours, but we haven't yet had any need to run it longer than overnight.  We like the way the Dual-top varies the output so it is very quiet when the interior temperature is near the set-point, but the output is high when the need for heat is great.  

 

We've left ours for two nights closed up at the minimum heat setting. Mid 20's overnight. It was a bit below 60 inside when we opened it with virtually no diesel used. We only did that once so no long term data for you.
