Alabama Hills new rules coming?

As we always use Alabama hills as our first stop/night when we go to the mountains,

most times spend 3-4 days each trip in area.

 

As most of you that use the hills you know it has heavy use and this may be the down fall.

We were there last week and talking to a local who knows/cares that due to miss use by 

inconsiderate campers, improper human waste disposal, expanded camp site beyond

existing sites which destroy plants, fire pits used as dump sites, left burning. atv's,side by sides,

4x4's and yes your stock street rigs off trail.along this line i have noticed on the hiking/mtb trails there

are sections Uphill being torn up by the latest toy the elect mtb the power tears up the trail base

Anyone who has been to the hills knows the above is true.

 

So the word starting to surface is limited use, sounds like entrance control/fees.

Easy to do as there is only 2 access points (yes i know the back way in but most do not)

 

Vault toilets, some one has to pay for them.

 

I almost agree as all you have to do is take a walk/hike anywhere in the hills and you will 

find tp,crap,behind rocks, bushes near any camp site.

 

Was told head counts are being done to give power for next step.

 

Been going to the hills for over 40 years guess all good thing come to a end!

Change is needed in the Alabama Hills. It cannot stay the way it is now.

Completely agree. 15 years ago there was never an issue finding a secluded spot even on a weekend. Now, even midweek the place seems over run. Another favorite spot being loved to death. 

Social media and detailed trip reports are not your friend. Same with hunting/fishing areas and zones.

As our population grows and prosperity soars there are gonna be more and more folks out on the land having their "adventure" and using their assorted toys.

 

Somehow, we need to nurture an outdoors ethic that includes keeping things clean and respecting the land, the quiet and the others folks opportunity to experience it somewhat privately.

 

I am not sure how to pull this off.

Same thing with surf spots.

Used to be that around a fire and beers guys would divulge spots. Now the internet has exposed most to younger surfers disrespectful of other surfers and the land.

Some guys buried their trash at a spot and I chased them down. Made them come back and take it with them. They probably just dumped in the desert somewhere. Sad.

Hey guys, we don't need to worry about rules and regs any more because another stake has just been driven into how we manage-or don't - Public Land!! Just read where Trump, at the urging of Zemkie, just pardoned   those Oregon ranchers whose arrest for burning up some public land, sparked the Bundy take over of that wildlife refuge near Burns,  I thought Zenkie said that he would become a "super environmentalist" during his second year as head of the DOI.   Wonder what his definition of environmentalist is? So I guess that means some people get to burn up what Public Land resources that are not  mined up, drilled into or cut down or given to the rich! Rant-rant!

 

Now whether or not they deserved a pardon is one thing, but reading the reasons the Bundy's used it for (poor babies)-just adds more fuel to why we need to vote this next time. Enough ranting, just make sure you watch what they are doing out there and give support to those who try to manage OUR-not their public lands. Even if you don't take part by showing up at those unattended  public land planning meetings, still write those letters and please, please vote!
