Bought this moderately used 2001 Grandby and am in the process of personalizing for my uses. First, hated the huge two-piece flip couch (old style, not the rollover couch). I needed a little more room for a cooler and to store my bike inside so...

So ripped out the couch and thought about using the fwc dinette but it was wider than i wanted so made a smaller version. Then i tried making a table center piece but didn't like the result so...pulled some measurements and found a plastic table that could be made to fit...then attached a Lagun table arm and made a storage area at the back of the seat bases for the arm. And to keep the table top in place in bed configuration, it is "keyed" onto the rear cross piece. 20190714_154127.jpg 20190803_154307.jpg 20190803_140107.jpg 20190804_113641.jpg 20190810_133859.jpg

With interior roughed in, i mounted my solor panel. I wanted a set up that would be simple, light (no struts), easily removable for remote use or in storage. I chose the overland solar 160wt flex panel. But since the panel would be removable, i attached it first to a thin aluminum sheet with vhb tape and pop rivets, then built an aluminum frame. The front of the panel slides into a cross channel and the rear is attached with dzus 1/4 turn fasteners...20190623_172719.jpg 20190623_173329.jpg

I tried to order a lipo battery from a local company but kinda got the runaround so..The battle born battery was highly recommended by a kid on you tube so i contacted them and got a 50ahr battery that weighs a whopping 20lbs and is the size of a six pack...perfect and expandable. Plus their customer service was great, thanks Eric...he also recommended a 75/15 victron controller and i opted to go with bluetooth...i was quite nervous about set up but it was easy, went perfect and formatted it to the battle born recommendations...20190810_183128.jpg

Thanks Russ, but in all honesty, it looks better in pictures as i am far from a craftsman but it was/is a fun project. I took several years of woodshop in jr and high school but that was decades ago...and rusty is an understatement but it is good enough for now

Hi OHR
I think your too modest, how you went about it and your resources. Pre made table, plus used with a versatile table base, integrated storage pockets ( I hate stuff you move around and around) no special ordered cushions. The design of the chairs, or benches lightweight not the same old box design. I feel safe saying your instructor hit the mark good job it looks great.

Russ

Mortised hinges, magnetic lid latch, nice hand opening for lifting the lid.
