Fall or autumn -- whatever -- meteorologically-speaking "officially" started 7 days ago, and it sure feels like it here in Central Oregon tonight.

I was dressed in t-shirt and shorts and sandals when I left Redding, CA midday today, but such minimal wear wasn't totally appropriate when I arrived in Bend at about 5:45 this evening.

Cool wind, dark heavy cloulds -- of a type that look more like wintery cloulds than thunder clouds -- and it's about 61F.

Good thing I have a plane ticket for later this week to Charleston, SC -- where it's still hot and muggy summer. But it's meteorological fall there, too -- no matter what it feels like.  ;)

Still seems like summer here. I'm watching the Walker Genessee fire burning over all the creeks I fished last june. 38k plus acres. Might make it to Honey Lake. Only stopping it from being worse is its burning into the antelope and moonlight burn scars and a few others. At least it hasn't made a run up to Kettle Rock.

Lot's of smoke here in the Honey Lake Valley; they held meetings today in Janesville on fire progress. I had planned to be camping right  now but fires everywhere and with especially the Walker fire down the road   (that along with wind, smoke, lightning and T-storms) have kept me close to home.  It's is getting cold here (from 90's to 60s/70's day time and 30s, 40s/50s nite), heavy rain on Tuesday, yet supposed to be back in the 80's by Wednesday?  I figure I'll wait and ride this stuff out and maybe head out to Silver Lake on Wednesday.  Had the truck ready to go since last week, but this mixed up weather is making for another interesting Fall. I should also mention that the rabbit brush( real nice and yellow this year) is real bad this year and people that usually don't have allergies are having problems. Fun, Fun Fun!

It's Fall here in North Carolina, too.  Meaning it's hurricane season.  Central NC dodged yet another one last week and I think the horizon is clear of tropical systems for a time to come.  I hope.

Autumn has such a nice ring to it, but we're sticking with fall. The aspens, way up high, are just getting a few yellow leaves................................... :)

I agree about the sound of "autumn".

But let me throw out this rationale for sticking with "fall":
'winter' and 'summer' have two syllables. The shoulder season "spring" has one syllable, so maybe using the one-syllable version of the other shoulder season would be symmetrical:  fall

You buy that...?   :P

Yup.............makes sense. I like "fall" because of the idea of falling out of summer and falling into winter.

That's a good way to look at it, Mr. 3pin!
And similarly, we 'spring' from the dark depths of winter up into the glorious sunshine of summer. :)
