Bemus,

You should be fine. I towed a Suzucki Samurai(2,300 pounds plus firewood, beer, etc)  Up and down hills 5,000 miles in 4 years  With no towing brakes. and  no problems. Truck, camper, gear and food, adult beverages pushed the load up to 6,000 pounds. for a week off the grid

We have the 4.0 liter V6 with trailer towing pkg. Your gen one Tacoma with the V6 is lighter than our 2013 Tacoma which weighs 4.000 pounds without the tailgate.

Truck has upgraded Bilstein shocks standard height. Replaced the springs to support 1800 pounds (camper is bolted on full time). Tires are LT 265/75/R16 E range. You need E range tires.

Picture was taken before the 70 miles round trip on washboard roads portion to the Saline hot springs.

Dirty picture is next.

Thanks Jim, Good to know. Mine won't be on full time and only towing boat with camper 60 miles at most a few times a year. Other than that it will be camper only. I will definitely be getting E tires.

I have a 2016 TRD OR with an Eagle (900 pounds) and tow my Chaparall 20 foot boat a few times a year. My suspension has been upgraded to OME Dakar leafs, Firestone Bags, Daystar Cradles, OME rear struts. In the front I've got OME 887s. Next go around on the front brakes I'll most likely upgrade to Tundra.
