If any of you are considering taking the plunge and doing a pop-top conversion on a Land Cruiser, Defender, or other long-wheelbase 4x4, I put up some thoughts and pros and cons here. It's an intriguing way to gain a self-contained camper with virtually no cost to the vehicle's performance, fuel economy, or off-pavement ability. But it takes commitment!

I have done it.   As with all things, there are pluses and minuses.

 

Here is our DIY conversion on a UZJ100

Years ago in oz, I also had a HJ45 with a pop-top.

 

Let's just say I am happier with my current Fleet FB/Tacoma combination.
