I have had some comments about people being confused about differences between attachments & gallery photos. Also there has been a comment about attachments now being displayed as thumbnails rather than full sized images. First the differences between attachments and gallery photos:

Gallery
Gallery photos are automatically resized to a maximum dimension of 900 pixels

Gallery photos can be reused multiple times in forum posts

Gallery photos can be rated and commented on.

Gallery photos will show up in search.

Photos uploaded to the gallery must be less than 2mb in file size.

Attachments
Attachments are not resized

Attachment total file size per post is 500k - so thats 3 photos totalling less than 500k or one photo of 500k or less.

Attachments are displayed as thumbnails and open full sized to whatever dimension they were uploaded as

Purpose
In my view, the gallery is better for things like trip reports because a user can create an album for a particular trip which will be of interest to other users to browse the albums outside of the trip report thread. Also searching for photos will be valuable for users. Since gallery photos embeded in posts are full sized, trip reports can be posted with inline full sized image which is a format many prefer (but takes a lot longer to load).

Attachments are good if you want to upload very large images (detail shots of campers, schematics etc) that will be initially displayed as thumbnails so the page isn't bogged down with a bunch of huge images. Or if you want to have your trip report photos in thumbnail format, this is the method to use.

Configuring attachments this way results in more choices on how to format photos in threads.

Hope that clears up some confusion.

Having trouble uploading photos?
If you are having trouble uploading photos, please report IN DETAIL what problem you are having and if you got an error message - what it said.

Thanks!

Open two windows - one with the gallery and one with the trip report. Then under the photo in the gallery you will see a field called "BB Code". Copy and paste that in the report and the photo will appear.

Hiya Dirty Dog,

I finally got some pix up on the site via the gallery method. That seems to work just fine and again used your suggestions to pull them in from the gallery to a post. Again worked just fine. Previously tho I had been trying to upload via the attachment button and every time I clicked on it it would wipe out the entire post and come back with a blank posting screen. After the third time doing this, yeah I know Mama didn't raise the brightest, my computer came back with an error msg that flashed real quick so the gist of it was a data prevention error and it also backed me right on outa the site. Now, that could just be good ol Vista acting up too??? I don't know if that will help you. I'm just fine with the gallery method. Site looks good and appreciate all the hard work you've been doing on it.

Sorry, without the error message its an impossible thing to diagnose. Making those error messages bigger and bolder is a good idea though.

On another note - remember that if you can catch me in town beers in Bend are on me :)

I just don't get it!!! Pam must be right- don't ask.

After spending the last hour clicking on anything that looks like it'll work I have no idea how to post these White Rim pix in either a "gallery" or and "album." Please a little help here.

I have had trouble with posting as well and here is what I found with the BB Code

When you copy the BB Code from the gallery and paste it into a post you have to delete the(img) at the front of the BB Code and the (/img) at the end of the BB Code and then it will work. Not sure why or if it's fixable but it is annoying and took a bit to figure out what was going on.

This is assuming that I can even get and image into the gallery. I can't. I'm starting with a blank slate here. I don't know how to upload the image into a gallery, start a gallery, start and album etc. etc. I thought I had it figured out once before but nooooooooooooooooo! So how do I get the pix off my PC and into a gallery?
