I recently removed my early 90s FWC Ranger II off the truck to repair a few things, and took the opportunity to install bed stiffeners.  We take the rig off road quite a lot and I have been worried about the bed of my 06 Tacoma flexing and bending/breaking.  The upper attachment points of the stiffeners are snug right up against the plywood of the camper bottom on both sides.  Barely any clearance.  See photo.

I’m wondering if flexing of the camper frame will force the steel to dig holes into the plywood.  I thought about lifting it up and adding scrap steel angle pieces to protect the camper, but I don’t think there is enough clearance.  I could also cut the top attachment point off with an angle grinder.

Any other ideas?  Thoughts?  I don’t want to completely remove the stiffeners.  I’m convinced that I do need them and I’ve already paid for them and installed them.  I’m trying to find a solution where I can keep them on but make it fit.

I suggest lifting the camper and installing a livestock pad for the camper to rest on clear of attachment points.

I actually bought one of those and decided not to use it because it weighed almost 100 pounds.  I sold it the other day on Facebook Marketplace.  There are currently thin rubber strips protecting the truck bed from a custom built aluminum frame to lift the camper.  The strips are way lighter than the stall mat.

The stall mat was 1/4'' thick, and I think I'd need more than that to clear the attachment point.

They are heavy(less than 100#) and awkward to handle, but I have three of them under my camper!
