Thanks for the nice comments. :)

Another excellent experience and TR, thanks for letting us tag along!

Next time, try a size 8 ought Purple Zonker.  Rumor is mermaids are suckers for glitz and color.

I'll trust you on that one, Mr. Sage. I'm done with mermaids.

Thanks why no pictures of the mermaid?

But we'll take your word.

Great looking fish.I have been waiting for a trip from you with lots of fishing.

Another beautiful location.

Frank

Ah Frank, I expect her posts are up somewhere on the Internet. I'm not going looking for them. :)

???  Even better than Screaming Yellow Zonkers??  I always thought they were the best.

If you can bait a hook with it, give it a try. :)

But when it comes to field dressing or cleaning, you are on your own.

Yup, it is harder and harder to keep your cool these days. I try so hard to bite my lip and keep my mouth shut. But it rarely turns out satisfying to engage, as you found out. Too many things can go wrong. We're glad it turned out well for you and your camp neighbor. Most of the time it does not. As I said above, times sure are different.

mermaid... incredible.  Nice to see you kept your cool.  I lost mine last weekend.  We were in a campground and had generators running on both sides of us.  We moved sites the next morning.  New guys shows up and has music playing loud while setting up his site.  I said some not nice things I later wished I hadn't.  Had to patch it up later, and he turned out to be a great neighbor for the remainder of the stay.  Still learning how to be a wise old fart instead of a crotchety one.   :P

Vic it gets harder to keep our cool and be nice

especially around obnoxious people.

Don't let anybody ruin your good time.

Frank

It seems music is verboten in a campground while generators are not. The last time we asked someone if they really needed to run the generator all evening he drove his truck around the loop several times honking his horn and sent the camp host to tell me my guitar playing was too loud. I really think all campgrounds need to be generator segregated and that anyone running a generator in a campground so they can watch TV (that tell-tale blue glow) needs re-education (pretty much an entire campground population was conspiring to disable a generator one night - we left dozens of nasty notes on the windshield instead 'cause some of us have a conscience and/or a fear of retaliation/punishment) The reality is that I rarely stay in a campground and I have left an already paid for site on more than one occasion. That is the extent of my "wisdom".

One thing we know for sure this days is people are downright dumb and dangerous. It is best not to do anything to provoke or set them off. How sad it is to share the planet with these invasives.

The little blood suckers were not bad where we were. The lower areas, Steens Mountain Resort, Page Springs Campground, along the lower Blitzen, skeeters swarms can be legendary.

Thanks for the TR. How were the skeeters? We camped just outside Frenchglen several years ago, in July just after they opened the byway. The swarms were epic, the worst I’ve ever experienced.

i stayed in diamond years ago, and mosquitos were terrible.

Thanks much for the information and reminder about redband trout. I've made the correction in the blog. Steens, obviously, is a fun place to fly fish. :)

Been there many times and it's a great area.  We've backpacked both "arms" of the mountains.  Earlier in the year, at the lower trails, the creek has more fishing opportunities.  They are "wild" reband trout.  There's also great fishing down (or upstream) from the campground if you hit it right.  So many side creeks, etc. to fish too.  I haven't fished the lake at the top you fished as we normally go earlier in the year before the road is open to hit higher flows lower down.  Great area.

I so much appreciate your letting us tag along vicariously.  That second rock art site sounds delightful!, all except for the road.

Sounds like the second part of the trip was free from undesirable campers.

Great rock art. Nice to see the Teds out and about.

Thanks for the story.
